Manure supplies:

Ampfield Riding Stables

If you would like some  manure that is dark and crumbles like peat, get along to Ampfield.  To find the stables – on reaching Ampfield, head up and up the hill –  turn 1st right  into Pound Lane.  Turn right again into Lower Farm Lane.  Follow the lane slowly to the end and you reach their yard and two double gates.

At this stage you will probably meet the stablehands, Hayley or Becca. The manure is behind the stable block at the end of the yard.  The old heap is accessed through a gate and about 5 metres from where you will park.

Ower

Free horse manure to whoever collects some of it or all of it. This has been collected by paddock hoover so if finely chopped almost like soil/powder. 1 mile from Ower roundabout on the A36. Phone Jo 07769586258 after 5pm Monday – Thursday or anytime Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Tawny Farm

Another source of free horse manure mixed with hemp bedding (no straw) has been advised in West Wellow.  Anyone interested should contact Claire Thompson on 07900 212703. As she doesn’t live on site, you need to ring and make an appointment to collect; you’d need to bring a shovel and bags, though there may be surplus feed and bedding bags on site that could be used.

Tawny Farm is located on Scallows Lane in West Wellow close to Sherfield English. From Romsey, take the A27 towards Salisbury, turn left next to The Hatchet public house on to Mill Lane, follow the lane all the way passing Shorts Farm on the right and the strawberry farm on the corner on the left, carry on down the hill and around the corner, take track on left opposite Sunrise Farm, keep left and drive all the way down to end (Willow Tree Farm is straight on), go through green gate on right signed Tawny Farm and drive down to the barn. The muck heap is clearly visible next to the barn.
